Welcome to our soap studio! At Kason's Mimi Handcrafted Soaps, we believe that what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it. That is why we choose the traditional, old-world cold process soap making method.
We never use pre-made chemical bases, synthetic lathering agents, or harsh detergents. Instead, we craft every single batch entirely from scratch. This intensive process transforms skin-loving, nutrient-rich plant oils and butters into a pure, refreshing, and deeply nourishing cleanse.
Here is exactly how the magic happens, step by step:

Step 1: Formulating and blending the base
Every bar begins with a custom recipe designed to love your skin. We precisely weigh out a luxury blend of pure food-grade bases—including rich shea butter, organic coconut oil, moisturizing olive oil, and conditioning castor oil. We gently melt these down and combine them at just the right temperature.
Next, we introduce a precise solution of sodium hydroxide (lye) and liquid (like distilled water, herbal infusions, or creamy buttermilk). While lye is a necessary catalyst to create real soap, no lye remains in the final bar once the process is complete.
Step 2: Mixing to "trace"
Using a stick blender, we marry the oils and lye solution together. As they blend, a natural chemical reaction called saponification begins.
We watch the fluid closely until it reaches "trace"—the magical moment when the mixture thickens to a smooth, creamy, custard-like consistency. Once we achieve a perfect trace, we fold in our natural earth clays (like silky kaolin clay), skin-soothing botanicals, and premium fragrance or essential oils.
Step 3: the pour and cut
Once the batter is perfectly mixed, we pour it into our insulating molds. This is where the artistry happens! We hand-texture the tops with signature waves, swirls, or botanical embeds.
The soap is then tucked away safely for 24 to 48 hours. During this quiet time, the mixture generates its own natural heat, completing the saponification process and solidifying into a firm block of soap. We then unmold the fresh soap loaf and precisely slice it into individual bars.
step 4: the patient cure
Good things take time. The freshly cut bars are placed on open-air wooden curing racks, where they will rest undisturbed for 4 to 6 weeks.
During this crucial curing window, any remaining excess water naturally evaporates from the bars. This patience rewards us with a harder, much longer-lasting bar of soap that yields a incredibly rich, creamy, and gentle lather perfect for even the most sensitive skin.
